Trying to get the eye painted correctly in a Singer Sargent study.

She is using oils and you can see how she corrects the eye position as it is higher in the original Singer Sargent painting.

My Art Practice

Welcome to Sarah-Jane Art!  The artist is thrilled to be bringing her work to you.  As a practising artist for over 30 years, she has sold work in New Zealand and overseas to happy collectors of her work.  Nothing is too much for her to paint as she has, and is exploring many subjects and mediums.  She has painted landscapes, seascapes, portraits and still life including floral subjects.  This skill gives her the alacrity and adaptiablity to explore and create a wide variety of paintings.

She is interested in colour, design in composition and is forever on a serarch for unique compositions.  Sometimes her compositions will have a unique element added, such as a glaze of paint to describe the clearing of a sun shower or the lines of the wake in the water during a boat race. Often her work is pared down to what will be most impactful as a composition.

Having had lessons in Watercolour at a young age by a gifted artist, Jilda Gordon, she has continued to develop her abilities attending Hong Kong University to study Fine Arts and more recently refining her abilities in The Bargue School of Drawing and Painting.  For the last 5 years she has been teaching Art online and in person, from drawing skills right through to colour and composition with the chosen medium. Her students are inspired by her classes, leaving with a lovely portfolio of work showing their development  in Fine Art.  Teaching for Sarah - Jane is a way of giving others the gift of Fine Art for a life time of enjoyment and wonder.

As she currently lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand, she often focuses on local landscapes and notable scapes of New Zealand.  She looks forward to the years ahead of producing more inspiring and uplifting work.
